Reference Bandwidth
The table below specifies the reference GbE bandwidth used for calculations in this
section. However, the effective bandwidth depends on network behavior, which only
partly relies on the EVS server.
Gigabit Connection Type
Real-Time Transfers Single Transfer Speed
Backup Restore Backup Restore
1GbE (Gigabit-H3X) 70 MB/s 65 MB/s 65 MB/s 40 MB/s
1GbE (10GbE board) 80 MB/s 70 MB/s 80 MB/s 70 MB/s
2 GbE (LACP teaming) 160 MB/s 140 MB/s 160 MB/s 140 MB/s
10GbE 220 MB/s 100 MB/s 200 MB/s 80 MB/s
Example
How many real-time transfers can be processed over a 1GbE network if I work with Avid
DNxHD® 120 Mbps in PAL, and if the maximum GbE bandwidth on my network is
70MB/s?
Calculation: Maximum GbE bandwidth / actual block-based bandwidth = real time
transfers
70MB/s / 14.9MB/s = 4.7 real time transfers.
Important Recommendations
• For 6-channel configuration, maximum bitrates for Avid DNxHD® or Apple ProRes
422 should be 220Mbps (NTSC) or 185Mbps (PAL).
• When using the Avid DNxHD® codec, we advise to work at 100Mbps if the picture
quality is satisfactory so that the XS can sustain 6 local channels + 5 network
transfers.
